RevMeter Pro 4.1

RevMeter Pro is a tool designed to measure the reverberation time of indoor spaces, utilizing the capabilities of the iPhone's microphone. It supports both burst and interrupted modes for capturing acoustic data. However, due to the limited dynamic range of the iPhone microphone (30dB - 100dB), RevMeter Pro operates under the RT30 and RT20 methods, which are tailored to work within this constraint, as achieving a full 60dB dynamic range is often impractical.

One notable feature of RevMeter Pro is its ability to send measured results via email for further analysis, facilitating a streamlined review process. Additionally, users can save screenshots directly to their iPhoto albums for documentation and reference.

Definition of Reverberation Time:

The Reverberation Time RT60 represents the duration required for the reflections of a direct sound to diminish by 60 dB relative to the direct sound level. Given the challenges in obtaining a 60dB dynamic range, alternative methods—RT30 and RT20—have been developed. The measured times from these methods are multiplied by 2 and 3 respectively to calculate the RT60 time.

Measuring Reverberation Time:

Traditionally, reverberation time measurements were conducted using a level recorder, which graphs sound levels over time on a moving sheet. The analysis involves generating a loud sound and observing the decay through the recorded slope. Contemporary digital sound level meters now offer automated analysis for convenience.

Two primary techniques exist for producing an adequate noise level with a defined cutoff point: impulsive noise generation (such as blank pistol shots or balloon bursts) measures the impulse response of a room, while an interrupted signal approach uses pink or white noise played through loudspeakers before abruptly ceasing, capturing what is termed the interrupted response.
